Every week our crews take down oaks across Pinellas County. For twenty-five years that wood went to the county dump. Now it gets bucked, split and stacked to dry here in St. Petersburg, and sold to people a few miles from the tree it came off.
That matters for more than the price. The state and UF/IFAS both ask you to buy firewood close to where you burn it, because wood that travels carries pests with it. Ours does not travel. You can ask which neighborhood a load came from and we can usually tell you.
What you get
- Mostly oak (live oak and laurel oak), the best firewood that grows here. Hickory or pecan when a job gives us some.
- Split to fireplace and fire-pit length. Cooking-size splits and chunks for smokers, kamados and pizza ovens on request.
- Two sizes: a wheelbarrow load for a few fires, or a pickup-truck load for the season. Each one is a set number of cubic feet and that number goes on your ticket, so you can compare it to anyone else’s price.
- Species and split date on every order. Ask for the moisture reading before you buy.
- Pickup in St. Petersburg. Delivery across Pinellas, stacked where you want it if you ask.
What we will not sell you
No camphor, redbay or avocado wood, ever. Those are laurel wilt hosts and the disease is active in Tampa Bay right now. No Brazilian pepper, which gives off harmful smoke. No palm. Pine only as kindling, and we will tell you it is pine.
Dry wood or it is not seasoned
Florida humidity is hard on a woodpile. Oak split here takes a year or more to get under 20% moisture, and wood above that hisses, smokes and will not hold a flame. We tell you when each load was split, and if you want the meter reading on a fresh face we will show you. Buy the dry stack for this weekend and, if you burn a lot, put a green stack in your yard now for next winter at a lower price.
Restaurants, BBQ and pizza ovens
Oak is the cooking wood most Tampa Bay pits and wood-fired ovens already run on. We can set up a standing weekly or monthly drop of uniform splits or chunks for a smokehouse, a steakhouse grill or a pizza kitchen. Call and ask for Karen.
Order before the cold front
When the first real front comes through in December, everyone in the county calls the same afternoon and the dry wood is gone by dinner. Text us in November and we will hold a load.
